Here are some possible and probable solutions as provided by IMGHA:

  1. IMGHA believes that Investment has to be increased in present training for local professionals and community health workers to identify common risk factors and provide life-saving measures, such as misoprostol administration, can help reduce maternal mortality due to PPH.
  2. Current healthcare professionals should be educated more on stabilization strategies, such as the use of tamponade balloons, and combined into the referral system to allow women experiencing similar complications to be able to get a higher level of health care.
  3. These are mosquito nets that have been treated with Pyrethroids substances known to be deleterious to mosquitoes, the insects that spread the causative organisms that cause malariaThe nets are expected to be retreated every 6 months with Pyrethroids. The Long Lasting Nets [LLN], which are factory treated with longer lasting insecticides whose potency last over 3 years, have been introduced but are not yet in wide spread circulation.
  4. IMGHA feels that long tested measures & methods need to be strengthened in the fight against malaria in pregnancy. Environmental sanitation, provision of healthier housing conditions and value-added socio economic status of the Nigerian citizens are all useful actions in this regard. Clearing of bushes, removal of stale and stagnant water and female education and empowerment are among some exact measures to control malaria in pregnancy.
  5. Need to organize Free blood pressure level monitoring camps for pregnant women.
  6. IMGHA needs funds to organize Educational seminars to communicate about salt intake in daily diet.
  7. IMGHA intends to start Regular prenatal checkups camps all over Rivers State in Nigeria.
  8. Since the majority of cervical cancers are directly caused by infection with HPV oncogenic serotypes 16 and 18, vaccination against these is a highly effective way of preventing cervical cancer. This is one of the main methods of control that has reduced cervical cancer incidence in developed countries. Vaccination is done for pre-adolescent girls who are yet to become sexually active.
  9. There are currently two vaccines available for HPV, CervarixR which is active against the oncogenic HPV serotypes 16 and 18 and GardasilR which is active against the two oncogenic serotypes as well as two serotypes which cause genital warts (6 and 11). They are currently not part of our national Nigerian immunization schedule. Therefore, they presently have to be purchased by individuals. This IMGHA intends to distribute freely, or at cost price or at subsized prices for everyone’s benefit.
  10. The politicians in power are the representatives of the common people. They are supposed to be off the people, by the people and for the people. The Politicians being in power and having access to unlimited funds for development and progress need to persistently be reminded of their attention to be bought towards malnutrition issues in the country.
  11. IMGHA intends to organize Diabetes prevention camps all over Nigeria.
  12.  IMGHA intends to repeatedly plead and pray and implore to the local and national government of Nigeria that it is best to make an official and legal BAN ON Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) so as to abolish the cultural practice of FGM all over Nigeria. IMGHA being a fully woman empowered association of African women of Nigeria understand this sensitive issue very well.
